Netiquette

Online classes provide a valuable opportunity to engage in in dynamic exchanges of ideas. To foster a positive learning experience, students are expected to adhere to the following Netiquette policy.

    • Use proper English and refrain from using colloquialisms, slang and “text language” when responding to Forum prompts or replying to colleagues.
    • The use of foul language will not be acceptable in discussions nor written material.  If quoting someone who uses such language, *****  the words please.
    • Using all caps is considered shouting, so refrain from such practices.
    • Prepare your post on a separate word document, and then transfer the content to the online class after you have carefully proofread your work.
    • The University’s Academic Honesty Policy also applies to forum posts, so it is imperative that you provide appropriate in-text citations and references when your response originates directly from a textbook, article, or other outside source.
    • You are invited to express your opinions, even if others don’t share it. In turn, respect diversity and opinions different from yours, no matter where they originate.
    • It’s acceptable to disagree with a point of view, but it is definitely inappropriate to disrespect and be offensive towards others. Being open to different points of view is a sign of intelligence; furthermore, paying attention to alternative viewpoints is one of the greatest ways to learn. Needless to say, racist, sexist, ageist, and religious comments are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. If you are the victim of an insulting remark, try to maintain your calm and resist returning the offense. Rather, report the issue directly to your instructor.
