Low Foot Beds have been the preferred type of bed found on most children's bedrooms for as long as I can remember. At the time of my last birthday, two of my friends had twin babies who spent the night sharing one room. They had chosen Low Foot Beds for their nursery because they loved the look of it, and because it was big enough to grow with them. As we all know, twin babies require a lot of space. These days, low footed storage beds are available for just such a purpose. They can be utilized to accommodate growing children who no longer need a crib, and parents who wish a more flexible sleeping arrangement that can accommodate even an overnight baby during the day.

Low Foot Beds, or Low Foot Sleigh Beds as they are also known, are actually smaller than the standard American twin bed, sometimes as small as a full-sized bed. The reason for the decreased size is the increased ability to utilize the bed's versatility and save valuable floor space when the bed is not in use. These beds are most often used as an extra bed or a place to sleep when more than one child sleeps in a bedroom. Low Foot Beds are available in a variety of styles and colors, but can also be customized with additional features such as side panels or a drop curtain. Their popularity has soared during the past few years because of the many benefits they provide.

Low Foot Beds offer a larger amount of space than traditional full-sized beds: over 36 inches of total bed length versus just 24 inches. This means a large room can be comfortably accommodations for a growing child or older child. Low Foot Beds usually consist of two twin beds or a crib, a small dresser, a couple of nightstands, and some drawers or chests for storing things. There is no need for a chest of drawers because the bed will already keep it stocked. They can be easily moved into a room when needed, making them easy to turn into a comfortable guest bed or storage bed when they aren't being used. Low Foot Beds are also extremely stylish and come in a number of different colors.

While most low foot beds feature a drop front under-bed storage area, some may include a bed frame within the lid or have built-in drawers and chests as well. If there is a storage area on the lower lid, this is referred to as a "low-hanging" lid which means the lid lowers to a lower position than the rest of the bed. A "high-hanging" lid has a different design where the lid does not lower, but hangs up over the end of the bed frame.

There is generally some sort of rail attached to the side of the bed, which allows you to reach the mattress at the bottom or adjust the bed frame to fit around the child. Many of these beds also feature built-in holders for a mattress pad or as an additional bedding option. Some low sleeper beds have built-in support bars for added support, whether it is for the bottom or the side of the bed. Some of these beds even feature built-in water beds to help keep the child warm at night.

Low Foot Beds are designed for very young children who still want to be able to move around. However, they are not designed for older children who have developed enough muscle to be able to climb onto their beds. Most of these bed frames feature a drop-down mattress that folds down into the back or side of the bed. The bed frame can then be locked into place, protecting the mattress from accidental falls or other dangers. These beds will also feature a slide mechanism on the side which will allow the child to slide down the bed, rather than having to use the pull mechanism which helps to lower a bed.

Low Foot Beds for young children are designed with a shorter leg rest, which will help prevent the child from tripping on loose strings and the like. The bed will also sit closer to the ground, which will protect the mattress from accidental "scratch marks" caused by furniture. Some models will also feature a trundle bed feature, in which two mattresses can be stacked inside of the main bed. This will allow the child to grow into their high chairs or use the trundle as a toddler bed while still sleeping on the main bed. Most of these beds come with a removable mattress which can be changed out over time.

Low Foot Beds are designed with low foot bedding. A mattress will sit closer to the ground as a result, so that the child will not have to stand up to help themselves to a higher bed. The bed will also sit closer to the floor, so that the bed won't tip or move when pushed. Low Foot Beds are very safe beds to use for young children, as they feature sturdy metal frames, which will not dent. A child will not be able to turn the bed either, since the frames are too high.
