Philippine teleseryes are serialized drama series that reflect the reality of the Filipino people. These programs are broadcast in primetime afternoons five days a week and command the highest advertising rates in the Philippine television industry. They are also shown in non-English markets where they are dubbed in the local language and occasionally have foreign subtitles.

Ang Probinsyano is broadcast on a number of channels in the Philippines and internationally. It has been simulcast on Jeepney TV and Cine Mo!, and has also been broadcast on TV5. It is also available online on websites such as Pinoy Tambayan and Kapamilya Online Live. The Filipino Channel also airs the Pinoy version of "Ang Probinsyano" in some countries.

Ang Probinsyano has five major narrative arcs. The first arc, Syndicate, runs from 2015 to 2017, and it centers on Cardo's experiences as a member of the CIDG and its cases. The second arc, Rebellion and Terrorism, contains the third and fourth seasons. This season focuses on Cardo's encounters with "Pulang Araw" and the vigilante group Vendetta.

ABS-CBN began broadcasting controversial teleseryes in the country in the late 2000s. The ABS-CBN hit Walang Hanggan, starring Julia Montes, tackled the problems of adultery in the household, and brought back veteran actors Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta to primetime. The show was so popular in non-anglophone markets that it became the first Pinoy Teleserye to win its timeslot in all episodes.

ABS-CBN produced Kay Tagal Kang Hininintay in 2012-2013, and starred a newcomer in James Reid, and veteran actors Carla Abellana. The show was also the first musical-themed teleserye on Philippine television since 2006. The two actors, Janella Salvador and Elmo Magalona, were nominated for the International Emmys in 2013.

After the success of Mara Clara, which starred Thalia and starred Angel Locsin, Ang Probinsyano also became a major hit in non-anglophone markets. It spawned a movie titled Mara Clara, which became the most popular Pinoy Teleserye in both the Philippines and abroad.

GMA's all-teleserye primetime slate

The all-teleserye primetime slate of GMA reflects the network's strong showings during the past few years. In 2004, it became the network's first to pass ABS-CBN in national ratings. This was attributed to the teleseryes featuring fantasy themes. Popular shows during this period were Encantadia, Karylle, Sunshine Dizon, and Diana Zubiri, which featured a cast made up primarily of females. Other successful shows on GMA's slate were the Mulawin, which featured a cast composed of Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin.

After several years of success, GMA also turned to primetime programming for its late-night shows. The late 1970s drama Darna, starring Angel Locsin and Vilma Santos, ushered in a renaissance in Philippine television with film-turned-TV remakes. This helped the Philippines' television industry to become the world's largest production of television dramas.

Teleseryes are highly popular in the Philippines. Unlike soap operas and telenovelas, teleseryes are largely free from political bias. They also draw a wide audience and command the highest advertising rates in the Philippine television industry. Whether viewers are familiar with Jose Rizal or not, they should be able to enjoy GMA's bayaniserye primetime slate.

Doble Kara was another highly successful show, starring Julia Montes. It was the first teleserye to run for more than a year in the post-Martial Law era of Philippine television. The show was extended for a second year because of its high ratings. With the continued success of Doble Kara, it became ABS-CBN's first teleserye to air for more than a year since its debut in 2014.

Trenderas, an all-musical series with a distinctly Filipino flair, has been the talk of television in recent years. Starring Isabella de Leon, Katrina Velarde, and Lara Maigue, Trenderas explains the lives of palangke vendors. Moreover, the series is a hit once the performance goes viral. This show is sure to remain popular in the primetime lineup.
